For better or for worse Mikey Varas stays because there is no Pro/Rel

There is no hiding the truth about my support for Mikey Varas. I am one to say the style of play and the vision instituted by the coaching staff is the right one. If you've followed the whole rise of the team, this is the Right to Dream way.

HOWEVER, when it isn't working, it isn't working. It worked last season. Call it luck, say that the MLS never saw this kind of playing style, or our team was just playing with more quality, or Chucky, whatever.

Fact of the matter is, people who follow other leagues do see leadership changes (managers getting sacked) much faster because there are true economic consequences that those teams face because of promotion/relegation where a team playing at the top league can lose badly and get relegated to a lower division. Because of the closed structure in Major League Soccer (MLS) , the financial threat is not severe.

Mikey Varas is in his 2nd season with a mixed bag of poor performances with his team or individuals, player availability troubles, and yes, incorrect strategies laid out in regard to roster and in-game tactics.

Can this ship be turned around fast enough to see them make the playoffs? That path is beginning to feel less likely especially with the form they showed at Colorado versus the Rapids.

Face it, our team sucked in elevation. But that wasn't the reason last night for our performance. Many of the issues last night were in poor quality touches and passing, as well as Colorado being able to press our team into making those mistakes.

Changes need to be made. Whether it's fixing the formation, changing the starting XI, or how the team trains and prepares for games.

If this was a pro/rel league, Mikey would've been let go after this game. But it's not, and honestly, won't be let go because our teams front office and owners made the conscious decision to hire a coach who represents their values and not prioritizing winning per say. I'm not saying he won't be let go if this continues, but the move for coaching staff changes will be very slow.

But if this ship sinks, fans will demand change. I have to see this performance all the way through to the end of the season playoffs or not before I fully react. But as of now, I'm not happy with how Mikey is managing this team. The majority of last year's winning line up is there. And those same players are now playing poorly. If this continues towards the end of the 2026 season, then I'll be of the opinion of letting Mikey go.
